This is Day 90 of the Positive 100, a countdown to Rare Disease Day 2014 and an exercise in being positive despite it all.
All you need is love. Sort of. Well, not really, but close enough. When it comes to needs, respecting our personal needs is important. Heck, it might be one of the most important things there is.
I need quiet. Somewhere to escape the hum of the day. I need a kitchen where I can tune out the world. I need a cat to chase away spiders.
These things might not be on Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs, but that doesn’t mean that they are unimportant. And they aren’t directly related to my survival. I could make it to work each day if I never escaped the rhythm. I could live if I had only a microwave and access to water. I could throw shoes at the offending spiders.
But to be my best self, I need a little more than the super basics. And although I might dearly want them, I don’t need those designer shoes.
