This is Day 95 of the Positive 100, a countdown to Rare Disease Day 2014 and an exercise in being positive despite it all.
Life is nothing without passion. Passion gives us beautiful paintings. Arresting symphonies. Riveting fiction. It gives us something to live for. A lover. A career. A mission.
I live a life full of passion. Life’s too short to include things you aren’t passionate about.
My biggest passion is the internet. It is the hub for everything I do. At my day job, I design for it. When I come home, I write blogs and use the internet to share recipes, design projects and inspiration. It has allowed me to make new friends and learn more than I ever thought possible.
I started getting involved in contributing to the open source community. I think about usability best practices and how I can improve user interfaces whenever I use a website. I could talk to you for hours about why semantic HTML is important or why responsive web design isn’t optional anymore. We could talk about why 503 compliance matters or why WordPress is my favorite.
And all of those things fuel my other passions. Blogging is a natural extension of my day job talents and my off-hours hobbies. Knitting is enhanced by online community. Design is improved when a wider audience can have reactions. I can give a voice to sufferers of chronic pain, food allergies and rare diseases.
Passion for the web fuels my life. It keeps me going when my body doesn’t want to. It helps me connect with others who are just like me. It gives me a way to share my other loves.
